To know whether or not your *direct* maternal line descends from one of the founding Mothers, check your maternal line The line goes from you to your mother to her mother (your grandmother) to her mother (your great grandmother) as far back as you can go. Both men and women's maternal lines can be mtDNA tested.

This post made me realize I haven't traced beyond my husband's 3rd great-grandmother, Malvina Boucher (wife of Michel Lucier). I think she will be the focus on my research quite soon, and then I will come back to this post to see if she goes back to any of these women.
One of these days we definitely intend to have my husband's Y and mtDNA tested.
This is fascinating. My family name is Horn and descendents of Jacob Horn who married Francois Anastasia Savary and so I have always wondered how far back her family went and this is so enlightening. I have lost her after Forest, but just finding this was a gift. I can see this is the start.

I am wondering how close to being exhaustive your list of founding mothers of Acadia is. My mtdna haplogroup is W1 and all on my mothers line are of Acadian background. I see that you have only one founding mother with the W1 haplogroup, so would I be able to trace myself to her? If so, I would like to find out more about that line. The ancestry I know of on that line only goes back to the 1800s through Belliveaus and Boudreaus.

Trace your maternal line in a direct line..you to your mother - your mother to her mother and so on to see who your furthest founding Mother of Acadia is.
